Sometimes, I find myself pausing, sitting back, and realizing, “I have no clue how to do this.” Normally that realization is panic-inducing, creativity-blocking, dream-crushing…but lately, it’s had the opposite effect. It’s freeing. The thought that I don’t know the status quo for how to execute something excites me, because I get to try it an entirely new way, unclouded by what everyone else has been doing. Sometimes this yields terrible results, sometimes I’m overlooking basic realities that cannot be ignored. But oftentimes, it opens up a novel approach or idea that likely wouldn’t have cropped up using the same old route everyone else was following.
